Today is Food Day

Today is Food Day, so why not make some real food? It’s always a good idea, but also one that takes time. I had picked the beans a few days ago in anticipation for our first frost. Now, it’s time to do something with these beans – shell them, cook them, and then freeze them. They will be wonderful some cold winter day especially since I know that they have come from my own garden.

I have a Victory Garden from which every harvest is a small victory in food independence a concept that encourages gathering as many food calories as possible from home, local, and other sources independent from the corporate food organizations that seek mostly profits from consumers.

These beans are especially nice because they are red runner beans. I plant them because their scarlet flowers attract hummingbirds. Then, in the fall, when the hummingbirds have returned to their winter regions in the tropics, I can benefit from their pollinating service.

  1. Thank you Katie. You are the first person to make a comment on my blog. Okay. We are up and running on our conversation about beans.
